I like to believe that I am very in touch with my emotions, so whenever I'm reading stories or other works, I sift through them in search for any kind of deeper meaning or symbolism of sorts. However, in this story, I couldn't find it. I did not fully understand what the author was trying to get across at the end and I thought it cut off at a bad point. The rest of the story was moving, but I wish the narrator's character change was a little more emphasized because the way the author wrote it didn't stand out to me. I understand there was a clear realization or epiphany for the narrator about the blind man but I didn't fully grasp it. I think the author was trying to explain that you don't need sight in order to enjoy life or be happy, which is very touching. The blind man's dialogue was very uplifting and inspiring, a man who cannot see still is able to learn every day, love his wife, and enjoy the life he was given. Other than the ending, I thought this was a powerful piece. I also really liked the way the author structured his sentences. The narrator was very straight to the point about his inner thoughts and feelings. It almost felt like it was written in a stream of consciousness, just following the thoughts of the narrator in his mind. The way he described the other characters was very honest, which created a sense of trust for the reader. I just really didn't like the character change.

The stream of conciseness within the piece helped me connect with the shallow nature of our thoughts when we can make judgements based on what we see and not from what's within.
